Taking Care of Your Feet So They Will Take Care of You

  1. Features to consider in sock selection
    1. Acrylic or blend with cotton or wool fabric
    2. Fitted socks rather than tube socks
    3. Well-fitting padded socks if needed
    4. No thick seams

  2. Shoe selection
    1. High quality athletic or walking shoes
      1. Soft outer sole that is not too thick
      2. Fitting late in the day to adjust for swelling
      3. Fitted for larger foot
      4. Re-measured for each new pair

    2. Options for special needs
      1. Special orthotic
      2. Low cost soft removable insole (1/8-1/4 depth)
      3. Extra depth shoe
      4. Shoe with rocker or roller outer sole

    3. Daily foot exam for those with diabetes
      1. Check for red spots, blisters, infection and wounds
      2. Contact with medical team if no improvement in foot problem in 8-12 hours of immediately if serious injury
